Studio diary: recording the second EP
A quick look at where we're at with the new recordings and what the process has been like.
We’ve been recording the follow-up to [Redacted] Take I for the last couple of months. No firm release date yet but it’s getting there.
The setup
We’re doing this one ourselves rather than going into a studio. The setup is fairly modest — an interface, a handful of decent mics, and a lot of time spent on mic placement. Drums were the big challenge, as they always are in a room that wasn’t designed for it. We got there eventually after a weekend of moving everything around.
The songs
There are four tracks, all written over the last year. They’re connected thematically without being a concept record in any heavy-handed way. A couple of them have been in the live set for a while; the other two are newer.
We’re happy with where it’s going. More on this soon.
In the meantime, the first EP [Redacted] Take I — Conquest, Famine, Pestilence, Death — is still on Spotify and everywhere else.
